Mareks or Genetic??
« on: July 24, 2011, 12:16:08 pm »
I hatched out a mixed batch of chicks about 12 weeks ago, they were all doing well until last week and since then 3 of them have staggered and then gone off thier legs, each one was quickly dispatched. The strange thing is that it is only the Marans that have been affected, the Welsummers and Buff orp are fine at the moment. My initial reaction was Mareks but as it is only one particular breed I wondered if it might be genetic?
I have never had Mareks before, not introduced any new stock and the chicks are in thier own run quite a way from any other birds, any thoughts?

I get Mareks in my Wyandottes but nothing else. So I suppose their genetics makes them susceptible.
