HELP NEEDED !
« on: July 21, 2011, 10:39:43 am »
My poor little chick which hatched a few days ago has been attacked or trodden on or something.  I've just been in the run to find her/him lying on the ground meekly cheeping.  It looked unable ton get up.  Mum wasn't concerned at all.  Its eyes are closed but its still cheaping quietly. I picked it up and looked it over.  No sign of blood, wings ok, not gripping with her claws though.  Its been sitting in my hand,  manages to stay upright but hunched up.  Eyes still closed.  WHAT DO I DO?  Me and my son have put her in a box with some hay in the house here.  Do I treat it like an injured bird - ie: put in the dark to calm down?  Is it best to give water/food or not?  Can someone give me some advice please. ??? ???

Well, she's definitely improving!!

After a couple of hours TLC in a nice cosy haylined box in the house she started to move about a bit, opened her eyes and the cheep got louder and louder.  I penned her in a little run I threw up for her and mother hen but they both escaped (I'm not good at construction work! :D).  She's got a bit of a problem with one leg.  Walking on it, but keeps collapsing on one side every now and again.  Hope its not terminal.

Last look she was back to normal except for the weak leg.  I'm pretty sure its not broken, but could be sore.  I'll be keeping a very close eye on her.  Thanks for you help everyone!
