Advice on feeding etc 6 week old chicks
« on: July 09, 2011, 10:51:57 pm »
My eleven 6 week old chicks have just finished their bag of chick crumbs could/should I put them on to growers pellets now or should I buy another bag of chick crumbs? They are on grass & also get scraps of pasta, green veg etc.. meal worms, chickweed... Also what age can they leave Mum & go to new homes? was thinking 10 weeks??I  have a couple of people interested in the girls but really wanted to keep one or two myself. Mum is a gold laced and Dad a chocolate partridge - Wyandotte bantams. The boys have the colouring of mum but not the pattern, 4 of the girls are patridgey, sort of brown & black barred, and one is just a chocolatey brown! Anyone here interested in any??

i would put them onto growers, if they are eating other bits and pieces then the size change won't bother them. most of mine have chick crumbs available till about 7 weeks, then move onto layers with chick crumbs and eventually just layers - usually around 10 weeks.

I would rehome them around 15weeks but then is just my preferred age. though i'm sure i have bought some in at 8weeks

Thanks Cameron, will do that they seem to be able to cope with biggish things. Just off to adjust another bigger run, Connor's not going to be pleased to see what they are doing to his neatly cut grass!
