For the second year running I have lost 50% of my leek plants. All chewed off just underground. The hole when excavated always leads to a gallery such as moles dig. Quite often there is in fact a mole hill nearby but moles are insectivorous. I can only think that some perishing mouse is sharing the mole run. Any advice out there? And what to do to protect my Leeks? Poison?

The holes certainly sound like mouseholes, but in my veg patch usually the mice eat above ground!  They have shown no interest in leeks either.  They've had away half of my chard, and I know it's them because I saw leaves that had been chewed off being dragged to the edge of the patch where they all live in a pile of stones!  Will be interested to hear what others think.
