I'm so excited
« on: May 28, 2011, 05:21:25 pm »
We have just had our first shearing of the flock. I tried to wrap-up the fleeces like they do in the books and on the TV/films etc but it was not a battle I was ever going to win :D THey were so fragile and webby that they fell apart very easily. I am now going to try to wash them and have my first go at spinning them. I suspect that it will end up as a felting exercise instead  ::)

How exciting! I remember getting our first fleeces back after shearing, it was very exciting! Good look with the washing and spinning, Lots of hot water and dont move them around, friction is not a fleeces friend unless you actually want felt!

Just heard from Fleecewife in the craft section. It might be that given the fleece is 3/4 inches long and webby that I should try spinning without washing. Sadly my spinning skills are at the pencil stage ;D ;D

I was going t say as well that you may find it easier to spin it in the grease and wash it afterwards. It smells a bit and not to everyones taste though I like it and your hands will be soft, soft, soft :)
