Register online at
www.foe-scotland.org.uk/agm-landrightsCommunities across Asia, Latin America and Africa are fighting to protect
their lands and their livelihoods from greedy corporations intent on putting
profit before people to fuel the trade in commodities such as palm oil.
Andy Wightman, will give our key note speech. He argues that "Land is power,
and how such power is derived, defined, distributed and exercised...is at
the root of growing inequality in Britain and at the heart of our housing
crisis."
Our conference will touch on issues including
Deforestation
Half the worldıs forests have now disappeared and, according to the UN, a
further 13m hectares are lost every year. Even more has been converted from
rich primary forest to monoculture plantations. At the current rate of
deforestation, the worldıs rainforests could disappear in 100 years.
Deforestation accounts for around 20% of global greenhouse gas emissions,
and is the biggest immediate threat to biodiversity. But as well as being
home to half of all endangered species, diverse forests provide livelihoods
to communities and indigenous people around the world.
Biofuels
Communities across Asia, Latin America and Africa are fighting to protect
their lands and their livelihoods from greedy corporations intent on putting
profit before people to fuel the trade in commodities such as palm oil.
There will also be workshops on biofuels and indigenous land rights in West
Papua.
The conference is free, but spaces are limited so please book your place
today by registering online at

Best wishes,
