so called dumb animals
« on: April 27, 2011, 09:51:59 pm »
We have recently bought a motorhome, which we are going away in tomorrow for a few nights.  We have decided to take our 2 dogs with us for their first trip out in it.   :o Strangely they seem to know they are going on holiday, as they have spent all day sat in the motorhome as if to ask when we are going.  They also put some of their toys in there.  They have never done this before when we have gone away without them.  How do they know??!!!  I think dogs understand so much more than people give them credit for!

mines the same

not motorhome but holidays, he can tell when we're going and becomes a right pest climbing in the car etc whilst i'm trying to do the mighty jigsaw of fitting all the stuff in the car and as soon as you tell him its time to go he's in the car in his space sat waiting for you to catch up!!!

this from a dog who normally can't be bothered to lift his head up to say hello when i come in from work as it might be too much hard work!!!

I had a rescue collie cross years ago, he was frighteningly observant and quick to learn.  (Now I have working collies so I know why JD was so.)  When you started to get ready to go out with him in the morning he would preceed you through your morning routine, eagerly telling you what you need to do next.  "Up Up Up Up, Wee Wee Wee, Wash Hands, Wash Hands, Knickers Knickers Knickers, Top Top Top, Jeans Jeans Jeans, Socks Socks Socks, Wellies Wellies, Lead Lead Lead, Door Door Door", at each stage putting his nose nearest the thing you had to do next - I never needed to think about which drawer my knickers would be in!

My dalmatian knows when its time to pick the kids up from school and has been known to come and wake me up to tell me, probably due to the birdsong clock we have in the kitchen.  In fact yesterday she was most peturbed when the 3 o'clock bird sang as I was in the bath at the time and she doesn't like it (obviously too clean and warm for her).  Not however as peturbed as I was when I realised I'd mistimed things somewhat!!

talking about suitcases - my cat jumps in as soon as one is opened, as if to say, "You're not leaving me behind!"

DUMB? who lies on the bed in the sunshine all day? our cats, who occupies the armchairs and couch unless they are being fed or walked? the dogs, who mooches around a sunny paddock all day without a care in the world? our shetlands, who worries about the mortage, the recession and encroaching grey hairs, guess?
Just who are the dummies :)

My dog hated going in the car when she was a puppy. We only got her to tolerate it as we persevered and she learnt that we took her to shows with the goats where she had fun. However, she is very smart- when we are at a show, and as soon as I start packing up she doesn't let me out of her sight- terrified that we'll forget to pack her to come home again.
