Best breeding for hatching
« on: March 22, 2011, 12:24:10 pm »
Hi, I want a breed of hen that is suitable to hatch anothers eggs. A good clocking hen in other words. Any ideas??

I've been told that Silkies are very good broody hens, I've seen 1 look after it's own chicks along with some week olds that were bought in with no problems.

Yep, my vote goes to Silkies any day.

Don't have any myself at the moment, just some Black Rocks & hybrid browns, but my mother kept them when I was a child & hatched out duck eggs under them too - amazing broodies, will mother anything that comes in an egg.
