Quad engine size

I'm looking at getting a quad to pull a topper , trailer with feed and bails in. What engine size will I need. Can I get away with a 200cc or do I need bigger.  Thanks

I've never used a quad with an engine smaller than 350cc.  Smaller are for kids aren't they?

Live in a cohousing community with small farm for our own use.  Dairy cows (rearing their own calves for beef), pigs, sheep for meat and fleece, ducks and hens for eggs, veg and fruit growing

We use our ride-on mower to pull a small trailer with feed up a 14 degree slope. It has a 700cc 21 HP Kawasaki engine and is near its limit.

Just asked my son who has a quad business. He reckons 400cc or above and recommends a Japanese made machine for reliability.

We'll my old Honda big red 4x4 is only 300cc (trx300) and seems to be reasonably powerful, but then I don't really tow anything particularly heavy, so I probably wouldn't go less than that.


you don't say if your dealing with steep hills or flat, or planning on using in winter mud or on hard surfaces; either hills or mud will need more power.
