Afternoon all.

Has anyone used a mini haybell plastic feeder for sheep? I've been offered one at quite a substantially reduced price second hand but a. I don't know if they're suitable for Shetland wethers with horns. Looks like should be ok and b. If it would withstand our weather, especially the sometimes high winds as we're high up. It does say it protects the hay from adverse weather and it's easy to move around the field by rolling it. But then it might move when I don't want it to!  :farmer: :hugsheep:

I had a full size one and it worked fine for my sheep (not horned but there's nothing for them to catch horns on). There was a bit of wastage, but sheep waste hay anyway. It was great to put out a big bale and not have to worry about it for ages. It IS easy to move, although the shape means it doesn't roll in a straight line - great if your DON'T want it to move far but a PITA if you do. And it does protect the hay.

Thanks Rosemary  :)

As it's a good price think I'll try it. And yes sheep waste hay whatever you use  ::)

I use a large IBC water butt and take the bottom off and cut holes in the sides

i put some hay on a pallet and cover it with the IBC, works the same and saves a few hundred quid in the process.
