Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now I'm angry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! >:(

Lazy, ignorant, stupid, bloody people!!!!! >:( (the owners I mean)

And that vet needs shooting too!!

THERE ARE GERMAN SHEPHERDS RESCUE SOCIETIES THAT WOULD HAVE TAKEN THOSE PUPS TO REAR. <----  the vet would have known this!

In fact I would have taken them and reared them as I do have the facilities and the knowledge, I really wish you had said something before putting them to sleep.  :(

I'm not blaming you in any way Frieslandfilly, I'm mad at the owners, the vet and the situation. You did the best you could and much more than most people would do, you put yourself out to help these babies.

Some people should just not own dogs, in fact if they were near me I would report them for cruelty cos what they did was extremely cruel to the bitch and the pups.
You and I have the same principles, Jackie. I went away after posting the last time as I couldn't stay to read any more platitudes.  Funeral or holiday makes no bloody difference those people shouldn't own a dog.
Always have been, always will be, a WYSIWYG - black is black, white is white - no grey in my life! But I'm mellowing in my old age

if the owners could not tell there bitch was  in pup then they should be banned from having animals imo its not impossible to see changes in the bitch  she would of stopped running around and would of known there dog was mated if they were any kind of pet lover but as i dont know the whole story i cannot judge them but now they have the aftermath of this i hope they get prosecuted for neglect on this matter as a result and banned from having animals for at least a decade

so sorry to hear about pups... and obviously I know nothing of the situation... and even less about GSD breeding and associated problems. But, it is possible this bitch rejected an unviable litter. If they were all suffering something genetic, enlarged hearts or defects? Who knows?
This of course doesn't excuse any owner neglecting the needs of the animals, just a thought, maybe these babes just weren't meant to be and mum knew best?

agree owners are total jerks, having bred dogs since a child i have not seen a bitch reject pups, seen it in sheep not cattle or pigs and having breed dogs have done the 4 hour feeding loads of times and lost pups you have to realise the runt of the litter don,t survive, can t understand vet as i have got plenty of pups through to solids

It is sad for the pups, and difficult to believe the owner had so little knowledge of the bitch's condition.

I do think, however, that the vet may have had the rights of it, particularly seeing as he had the opportunity to assess the pups' condition prior to making his decision. They were probably complications for those pups before they were born, owing to the management of the bitch, and having been born in a kennel and gone without heat, attention, or nourishment, for several hours after birth, there would surely have been little chance of their survival and a subsequent quality of life.

Is there any word on the owner of the poor bereaved bitch. She will need attention too, no doubt.

That must have been a pretty horrible time, ff, for you and your friend, having had the wee pups to take on, then losing them. You did your best for them, though. :)
