pig farrowing from only one side???
« on: December 27, 2010, 06:04:40 pm »
My GOS gilt farrowed this morning and has 11 healthy piglets. i am just a bit concerned that she did not change sides during farrowing and done it all laying on one side. She expelled the afterbirth which was very big. Is it normal for them not to change sides? also since the birth she seems very happy and content but has not got up for any food or water yet. How long is it normally before they do?

I've had some farrow lying on on side throughout, while others prefer to get up and have a "reshuffle" after each. Pigs are all different, just like us. Congrats on a good-sized litter. Wish all mine were that big!
