Nasal bots
« on: May 26, 2018, 04:45:55 pm »
Hi,

I was wondering if anyone had any experience of nasal bots? I only have 7 sheep but a few weeks ago I noticed that a few had very snotty noses and some had a small amount of blood in the snot. A local farmer wormed them for me using an ivermectin based, injectable wormer a few days ago and yesterday one of the sheep sneezed out some sort of larvae! It appeared dead as it wasn't moving but I was just wondering if anyone could tell me how long it takes to clear up? They had the wormer 3 days ago but they still seem quite snotty.
TIA

No clue sorry ,but ivermectin is certainly used to treat , so you'll just have to wait and see then you can tell us how long it takes

Have had a problem with this many years ago . Worming with a suitable wormer to hit their lifecycle has proved very effective . Worming at the end of the summer and then again in spring after a good hard frost which gets those in the ground,  kills off any who have managed to overwinter in the nasal passages gives a clean start to the the .

Thanks for your replies. I think they are getting less snotty and I haven't seen anymore larvae so I'm hoping that it will start to clear up a now. I'm quite new to owning sheep and wasn't aware of nasal bots until I did a bit of research!
