I think my Kune Kune Boar is deaf - can anyone tell me whether this is unsual? He's just a year old and I was hoping to breed from him, I don't know if that kind of problem is genetic? Carol ???

Bless him. It does happen. Bit different, but I currently have a partially sighted finisher that was born on my farm and all previous litters from the sow and boar have always been normal. Maybe just one of those things!!

Don't know if its genetic but so long as he's doing ok and has good quality of life he'll do fine. I know someone who has a deaf dog and she has taught him hand sign commands, pigs are very intelligent so maybe you could have a go too. Bear in mind some pigs like humans (my OH on occaision!! ;D) have selective deafness!!! especially when you're asking them to do something they don't want to do!!
best Mandy
