Poultry netting - geese keep getting out
« on: March 06, 2018, 11:24:42 am »
I'm having a bit of an issue with the movable poultry netting we use to keep the geese in. Its useful as we move them about the grassed area during the year. Its similar to the green mesh omelet stuff.

The problem is the geese invariably can walk right over it through sheer weight. Its tensioned but inevitably at corners it is a bit saggy. It also looks like they have bitten or chewed through strands and made escape holes. Can this be the geese chewing it or could it be rats / mice ? The geese bills are very serrated so it wouldnt surprise me.

Any easy solutions ? Or any recommendations of good movable netting for geese ?

No advice for movable netting for geese but just to say that yes they are probably chewing through it. Geese will nibble on pretty much anything. We tried some windbreak netting to keep the geese in when we first got them but they just went over or under it as they pleased. The only things we have found to contain them are stock fencing and hurdles. We have done temporary stock fencing using bamboo canes and a couple of loosely knocked in posts at either end. That worked fine for containing them.
