Home made chook run ...
« on: August 02, 2010, 01:04:51 am »
Just thought I would post a pic of the chook run taken last week just after I got the girls.

The house is a thirty year old dog kennel and the run is made from pallets and wire.

(ignore the mess around the place, I had only just finished it)  :) :)

That looks very neat and effective.  The wood stain/paint just finishes it off nicely.  Hope the hens appreciate it  :)

Wow, that's a palace!  What do you have on the ground, Ian?  Did you put slabs or concrete down first or is it just dirt?

I've got stone chippings down in there. They've been there for about 8 years  ::) The girls love to root around in them but eventually they will be too soiled and i'll then put bark chippings down.

Thanks for the nice comments everyone. It means a lot  :) My wife thinks I'm turning into a rag and bone man  ;D

It took about four weeks but was worth it in the end

Hi Ian Just a comment on bark chippings, I read they were really good in the base of the house, as they stay open and let everything wash down through. In my case this was simply not the case, they just ended up like mash. in a very short period. I meshed the floor in my run so chippings were to prevent sore feet on the wire. Hopeless it was. anyway another piece of hopeless info but certainly worth considering.

I could live in that!!!!

Because I spent so much time after work and weekends making it, my wife thought I was living in it  :D

The chooks seem to like it anyway so that's what counts but thanks again for the nice words.
