Looking to Sell/ Trade Pedigree Registered Shetland Ram
« on: August 04, 2010, 08:29:17 am »
Hi,
I have an approved, scrapie resistent (ARR/ARR) registered black Shetland Ram who now needs replacing as I have his daughters who need to go to the ram this year.
I am looking for another black ram/ ram lamb. Must be registered with the Shetland Sheep Society.
Will trade him/ sell and look elsewhere for replacement.
Quendale Prince is a stunning ram who has produced excellent lambs. Has always cleared the girls up with 100% lambing. Very quiet and polite, a dream to work with. Shame I have to trade him.
We are in the Northants area!!  :)

i have a black tup lamb (born april this year),  he isnt registered though & i wouldnt know whether he could be - with horses you need to know the sire and the dam - is that the same with sheep?

his line came originally from Rena Douglas, who has been a shetland sheep breeder and judge for about a million years apparently!  she travels to the US judging so i presume she knows a lot about them!  i am taking a couple of my sheep to a local show at the weekend and she said he was the best one - if that's of any help?

he is also very very tame and happy with any form of human intervention and has also been worked with a dog.

we adore him and would rather he didnt go for meat so if you were interested in him, then that would suit me just fine.

I suspect you will need to be a member of the Shetland Sheep Soc to register your lamb with them.  I have just forked out an arm and a leg to rejoin  ;D.  To register sheep, their parents must be registered, they must conform to the breed standard or description, and they must be birth notified to the breed society or the RBST Combined Flock book where relevant.  So if both your lamb's sire and dam are registered and you are a member of SSS then you can register him.  Rena does indeed breed top class stock  :).

Thanx for offer :), but yes he needs to be registered so I can register any suitable offspring.
