Hi,

I'm looking for some livestock fencing to make a paddock for new lambs to come in and be somewhat contained for a while to get them tame.

Has anyone tried this electric fencing designed for sheep? The price seems very good and would be a dream if it worked!

Obviously, not for horned sheep.

I personally wouldn't use any netted electric fencing unsupervised, too easy for lambs to get caught up in it and it can short out easier than normal electric fence. 3 or 4 strands of polywire and a good fencer should keep them contained in a paddock if you need them in a smaller area and probably a lot cheaper too. Don't let the battery go flat!

I can try to get a charge off my normal horse electric tape (what I use for my ponies and which is attached to the mains) and set up three strands really low. Is that what you mean? I have a lot of tape sitting there in the shed doing nothing.

Would you not even use electric netting for adult sheep? I wouldn't use poultry netting that's for sure (I had a sheep get caught in that, but I think it had grounded).

No, electric netting is difficult to get properly tight, can blow over/flap in the wind and if a ewe or lamb was to get stuck they would be in trouble. Not had anything get stuck in wire yet- not the tape that you describe but actual poly wire- using this at the moment and not got a problem, 3 strands separating a field up (cutting a bit for hay) and 2 strands around the fence line to keep them off the hedges. Electric netting is extremely expensive too compared to polywire- 50m for £78 inc vat for the cheapest your link has on offer...

Polymer and horse wire are the same thing, really, just that you can see the horse wire better because it is thicker. I'm going to create a lamb paddock with the tape and stakes I already have and take a photo of it to see if people think it will be okay for lambs coming in July. thank you for your thoughts on this.
