Late Birth
« on: April 10, 2017, 11:03:34 am »
I have 4 crossbred ewes which came off the Tup 2nd Nov  all were scanned wit twin lambs. 3 of the ewes have lambed successfully between the 23rd March and 28th. The problem i have is that the last ewe has not yet lambed and is long overdue. Is this usual. Should I be concerned. She seems happy enough and eating well

Based on the lambing calculator below, if she was tupped on 2nd Nov the dates she could have lambed were 20th March till 10th April (today). Is she showing any signs of being in lamb? I would expect her to be pretty imminent if she was. Was she scanned? My ram came out on 2nd December and I have 2 left to lamb, if not lambed within a month then they are off to market.

My ewes have sometimes gone six days over.  Is she a first-timer?  If not she should be showing signs of uddering up by now.  Lift her tail - is her vulva soft and pinkish?  If so she may still surprise you one morning.

Thanks for the advice,A few times I thought she was going to lamb ie; finding a quiet corner of the field and lying down with head upstretched  and thought just leave her for a while... came back an hour later and shes walking about the field no bother.... By my calculations even if she was tupped on the last day before removing the ram she should have been lambing Week Ending 27th March. She was scanned with twin lambs and her elder has formed and her vulva has been pinkish for a few weeks now.

This is my first time lambing and so far all gone very well ... just a bit concerned about this one ... but maybe its quite normal??

What breed?  One of my Badger Face once hurdled two sheep wire + barbed wire fences and back again - undetected - to get to our Southdown ram.  She was supposed to go to the BF ram that year but had crossbreed lambs a fortnight before anything else.
