Would you put a roof over a chicken run or would a wooden one make it too dark underneath?

We have a roof of wire netting over 1 of our runs as we have welsummers and campines in there,we have the roof as they fly out and lay everywere.The other runs have no roof on as they dont bother to fly out.

I don't have a wire roof on mine, but I wish I had done as I've lost three hens to my GWP from them jumping over the fence.  If I get more hens I'm going to put some bean netting over the top

I am going to put some clear PVC corrugated roof on at least part of mine, so they have a dry place.

we have ours wired - too many dogs, cats, foxes, mischief makers!
after the wet summer & winter, it became a mud bath very quickly.
So I'd recommend a roof, if you're thinking wood maybe just do the bit near the coop to stop it being too dark.

(No coppers about??  the roads around us were tar-sprayed a few weeks back, the council didn't take down the corrugated plastic signs everywhere for AGES, so when the clips were getting abit tatty.... I liberated a few!  they make brilliant rooves on the chook run.     typical blooming council, the day after they sent round the roadsweeper and a bloke to collect up all the signs!!)

We're going to put netting over the chicken run cos we are fed up of sustaining the rook population down here  The perch on all the posts like vultures and then intimidate the hens before hopping down to steal the food.
