Rose tinted memories

Well, I had the long planned family gathering in Newtongrange and there must have been over 200 people there from all over the world, I spoke to people from New Zealand, Canada and America and of course, Scotland, England, Wales and Cornwall. My cousin and his band, Pride of DUnbar, sang some touching songs then was joined buy the rest of his band and played for the rest of the night, I had far too much to say to my relatives that some I had not seen for 50 years and I wanted to know more about them, I found out that my lovely cute white haired Irish gran was a drinker and a gambler and not a good wife or mother!!! and my rouge uncle who was the most self sufficiant person I knew (and clever) was a horrid and violent womaniser whos children left home at the first oppertunity, one, who was my brothers best mate, has cut all ties and lives in Glasgow!!!! WOw, I was shell shocked and now wounder about other things, but it was truely great and I had tears in my eyes at times and our cousin Sir Chris Hoy did not attend but sent his dad!!!! I was so disapointed!!!!!!!

I'd love to know more about my family. I've started researching a couple of times - it's on my winter to do list.

My Dad used to say his forebears were grave robbers and cattle thieves. I've always asumed he was joking :o

My sister and I are researching our family history.  The main problem is that you have two parents - you really have to choose one line and follow it right through or it gets very confusing.  We have used Scotland's People (http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/) and I found another really good site too in Ancestry.co.uk
Always have been, always will be, a WYSIWYG - black is black, white is white - no grey in my life! But I'm mellowing in my old age

My dads family tree is a little easier and harder, his family on his dads side, stayed in the same area, Leicester, only moving in and out of Manchester, maybe for work, my grandma on my dads side was from manchester and it looks like most of her family remain in Manchester and most of my grandads family on my dads side, remained in Leicestershire. My mums family, have moved all over the globe with an Irish Nan and a Welsh pop who had Scots as parnets what do you expect? ;)
