Naked ram

Hi all,

My ram recently had a case of fly strike, mainly on his tail and rump, he has been treated and is fighting fit again. Whilst he was being treated, we cut his fleece around the infected areas, since then though, his fleece has come away in clumps around the area that was shawn and infected. He now has a naked bum and rump down to the skin. My question is, will his wool grow back and how long will it take if it does?

May depend on how deep the maggots went in.

Yes it will grow back , it'll take as long as it needs and don't be surprised if it is a totally different colour to the rest of the fleece

The maggots had burrowed into his tail a little but wasn't deep on his rump, they had just scratched the surface so to speak. I have just ordered the yellow fly cream (can't remember the name now!!) But until it arrives he'll be treated with sun screen and sudocream, just to be safe. The skin looks clear and a healthy pink, but no sign of regrowth yet.

Sounds like you are doing your best.  As Shep 53 says the wool may come back black or brown!
