Help!! urgent
« on: May 01, 2016, 03:26:58 pm »
My pygmys are losing their grazing! Have moved my horse but no other yard will take the goats. They are just pets follow me everywhere and I definitely don't want to sell them! The yard my horse is at won't take them because farmer is concerned they will interfere with his livestock.
Need some nice person who loves them as much as me and will still let me see them. Any ideas guys I'm tearing my hair out  :'(

Just a thought, do you have a large enough garden that could be registered holding to keep a couple of your pygmys, with shed, large enough exercise area . More work carrying branches etc. in and muck etc. out, regularly sweeping exercise yard, but some people do this type of system.
or hope you find alternative grazing or new home soon.

Ufortuneatly not or they would be here in a second. I live in a flat and my mums garden is too small plus her neighbour is a nightmare :(
Had an offer from a woman to keep them in her field and she wouldn't charge if I fed her ponies which would've been ideal but the field wasn't next to any houses her stables were just left open for them to go in and out as they pleased but obviously the goats couldn't do that because they would be open to predators so I would have to go up twice a day which is no good as it's quite far away and k work full time :(

Could you put a shed there just for the goats?

I know pygmies are small but are they really small enough to be fox food or do you have other potential predators we don't have in Wales.

I could put a shed there but would mean leaving them out all the time to just go in and out when they please.

Mine are small even for pygmies, don't know if a fox would actually take them down but might be easier for it as there is only 2 of them and don't think I could sleep at night! Would be different if I had a heard but these are my babies :(

You can't just put a couple of goats into a field with horses/ponies. Unless that field has a designated CPH (agricultural holding) number it is illegal to keep agricultural livestock there. And even though pygmy goats are  not really farm animals, they are goats and as such need to be registered with SAMU/Animal Health. Even if you don't breed them, you will need to have a herd number and be the registered owner.  And you put them into someone else's field - it is the horse owner/owner of the field that gets the blame/fine if the field is not CPH-ed - not you. If you move them you will also need to complete movement forms and send these in to SAMU.

And you cannot expect a livestock owner/farmer just to take on a couple of goats of unknown health status onto their farm... most of us pay a lot of money to keep our livestock to a certain health status (and get tested/inspected regularly for it).

Where did you get your goats from?

I'm wondering if you got them from me!
pygmy goats, gsd, border collie, scots dumpys, cochins, araucanas, shetland ducks and geese,  marrans, and pea fowl in a pear tree.

Obviously have thought of all of this considering I had to do it first time around when bringing them to the yard they are previously in. And have taken them to shows and filled in all the movement forms, you should never just assume that someone isn't doing all of this maybe you should've checked first.
Goats are also up to date with all vacs etc! I do everything to insure my goats are looked after appropriately.
