I went out for the day yesterday, leaving hubby to take delivery of lsome arge hay bales....

as he moved the car onto the road, the nice man began to back up his long trailer and land rover so they could roll them bales off into our yard.

CRASH!!!
Yes,we have our lovely hay.... but he got the (open) gate caught on the end of the trailer, and didn't realise - until he'd not only twisted the metal gate off, but also pulled off the whole top half of the gatepost!

Its like a double gate, each side has a square top which sticks out, and is stone, joining to the boundary walls. with two inward-opening metal barred gates.

the farmer was very apologetic, and of course all the neighbours came out to have a nosey!
It gives us chance to fill in some cracks appearing in the walls when we rebuild the gate post I suppose....

told my husband he's not safe to be left!!

Thats the sort of thing that I do all the time, twice I have damaged vehicles reversing into the yard with feeding. Thank goodness OH works abroad I have time to get them fixed and he never knows

Hi Little Blue,  My husband bought himself a brand spanking new Holden Rodeo 4 wheel drive in 2007,  I drive it regularly and didn't get a scratch on it.  Anyway one night after doing the grocery shopping I asked him to pick up the fish and chips as I was tired and rattled after shopping with two children who were I want I want.  He backed up our drive way and hit the gate, the gate got bent and the rear panel of the rodeo was damaged.  Of course it was all my fault.

Oh dear, Little Blue, that was not good, was it?  But at least you got your hay bales delivered.  How many have you got ......and I am just wondering exactly where you put them?  They are quite large to store, and you do not have that much spare space, do you?!!  Are they wrapped?

Any crash without a body part being involved is a 'good' bash!!

I dont think I have one corner of any vehicle or appliance without scuff marks on the corners. Its always disappointing to make a full contact impact though, rebuild the post and it will give it that worn in authentic look

The first time dad let me drive the tractor i had to reverse into the yard, it was a pitty dad had left the quad in the way, i kinda liked it

don't worry, they are well wrapped!
at the mo they are in the yard and we widened a small tear to get the hay out (then re-cover) until we have the strength to move them!
so its slow going a handful at a time, but good value....

And I found a tiny bumble-bee nest inside the wall,  had to move it in preparation for building!

Yes, we have the big bales and they are heavy, aren't they!!  Once you get them rolling, they are not too bad.  Some we get are not wrapped, and have a net on, quite often they are left stored like this outside, as only the outside gets wet.  Big bale hay is better to pull off than the large haylage ----you need some strength to unwrap those.  A bale will last you forever, won't it!!

not much good for my hay-fever though....

We got a big bale of straw ages ago,and thats lasting forever!!

We've been using round bales for ages our cows gobble it down in two days.  If left in the paddock the horses will take two weeks to eat it, mind you there are only two horses, but I had to stop doing that as my gelding developed an allergy to it,  so now I just give them small square bales.
