Sign of a good summer perhaps?
« on: April 01, 2010, 08:22:53 am »
I was always told if the rooks built their nests low in the branches of trees its going to be a bad summer.

For the last 2 years they have built low BUT this year they have built right at the end of the branches, so look forward to a good summer guys. ;D

Jackie It is not my wish to correct you or quarrel but have you really observed what rooks do? You watch I posted in early February that the rooks at Church Farm were repairing their nests. In the rookery they maintain their nests and that means the nest is in the same place for years. :D :farmer:

Hi, wizard,Jackie,
My Dad studied the rookery in his field for many years, he did find the better the summer the higher the nests were. He was an astronomer but his hobby was meteorolgy, especillay old wife type.

I was reading somewhere,  can't remember where!, that a forecasting company who specialise in long range forecasts have said it's going to be a really hot summer.....hotter than 1976 apparently.

Hi, I put some nest boxes out for some garden birds to nest in but they have turned their beaks up at them! Might be too early yet up here.I have a friend across the voe who has a large carport and they always have nests around their door in pots and in window boxes. You go to their house and the blackbird just sits in her pot by the door watching the world go by.When my trees are grown I will be able to put some in my 'forest' ;)

That sounds like some thing to look forward to Karen It is quite surprising where one bird will sit and take little notice of you and another off as soon as it hears you.We have a bod wot comes in the morning for his currant ration he comes right in the back way and chunters like mad if you have not put them out for him ;D :farmer:
