New to Pygmy Goats
« on: September 05, 2015, 09:51:25 am »
Hello

I am new here although I may have posted some years ago when this was all a dream

18 mths ago we moved to rural Spain and have spent the time fencing and building etc.  We are finally ready to get some live stock which will include 3 pygmy goats. I am however having trouble here in my part of Spain, finding very young goats  Most are 6mths to a year and as I am new to goats, I wondered if this age was a good age to get them  or should I have more patience and get them younger, if so how young?

Thanks in Advance

We wean ours at 3 months and that is when most go to their new homes - we do handle them a lot so they are socialised and quite happy to go up to anyone for a treat  :innocent:

Saying that we have just had one leave at 9 months as she has gone to a new home with a friends 4 month kid and the lady had to wait longer than anticipated for her holding number.

Personally, younger stock may settle quicker but if they are used to people I am always surprised how quickly the animals I have loving reared and cared for turn their backs on me for new paddock  :huff:
Pygmy Goats, Shetland Sheep, Zip & Indie the Border Collies, BeeBee the cat and a wreak of a building to renovate!!

many thanks

I am having trouble here finding young kids,  Offered many females who may be pregnant but I have no experience of birthing animals ( only me!) so not happy to go down that route.  I think I will end up having to take year olds hopefully with goodied :innocent: they will grow to love me
