My Mum found one of her ducks frozen to death (or so she thought) one day back in the early fifties...she was on her way out so she put it in the bottom of the oven (not on) to keep it safe from the dogs, intending to pluck it on her return....when she opened the oven on her return the duck flew out at her knocking her off her feet and spilling the jug of milk she had just fetched...the dogs chased the Duck and the kitchen was in an uproar...my sister and I climbed on the sideboard to escape...Dad came in to find out what the noise was all about and the Duck (Brambles) fled through his legs and out of the open door chased by the dogs...luckily my Mum saw the funny side of things and just sat in the middle of the kitchen in a pool of milk laughing her head off...I don't remember what eventually happened to Brambles, but he was still around for quite a while after.
