My silkie cockerel appears to have lost his voice its body and mouth are making the actions for a cock a doodle doo but nothings coming out, I have been down by the pens for a lot longer than normal today. And noticed it, thinking back I can't remember the last time I heard him, our other cockerel in the other pen is fine I hear him most mornings!

Thoughts anyone!

its weird i spent some more time with him today, i was working near his pen anyway, he definitely made a few of the clucky noises but every time he straightened up to cockadoodledoo nothing no sound at all...

Watch there's no respiratory or throat infection pick him up and hold him to
See if hes wheezing have a look and smell at his throat incase there's anything there

I wondered if he might have those worms in the throat ?gizzard worms?

well i caught him up and he doesnt smell and he makes enough general i dont like this noises when picked up... just no cockadoodles!!! will keep watch for a day or 2 i suppose its possible he's just being respectful as mrs silkie is brooding!!!

Ollie our Australorp cockerel had this for about a fortnight.  His "doodledoo" came back eventually.  We think that it was because he insisted in standing in the rain, getting soaking wet and trying to be chivalrous, whilst all of his ladies had shelter.  He did appear to have a bit of a cold at the time but recovered quite quickly.
