Hi,

Should I clip the wings on my Emden geese?

If you want to!

A couple of ours have discovered they can fly, so I clipped their wings as I was forever rescuing them from the other side of the fence.

The rest prefer walking, so I've left them alone!

Our Embdens can get off the ground a bit, but I wouldn't describe it as flying. We've never clipped them and apart from the odd hop into one of the pig pens they never go anywhere.

How far/high can they fly? Mine do lots of enthusiastic wing flapping and their feet occasionally leave the ground but they never get very far. You can end up with a few bruises when you clip the wings of several geese, so only do it if you really have to. :)

ours can fly into a neighbouring field but they always get back one way or another so we don't bother
