size of a whole lamb
« on: September 20, 2014, 12:56:10 pm »
In readiness for the lambs going to slaughter we need to get a freezer.  Space is finite for the freezer, so we need to get one big enough but not too big.  Roughly how big is a butchered and jointed etc lamb carcass please?  Its not the weight we need to know, just the volume.  Many thanks.

when I finish lunch I'll go and measure the boxes mine came back in but roughly about a drawer full of an upright freezer would do packed well.

beaten to it, 1 lamb is approximately 1 full size draw in a 55cm wide upright freezer if that helps...

a whole pig on the other hand is 2.5 to 3 drawers full...

a draw takes 5-6 whole chickens...

just in case these questions arise in your future....

I allow 2 freezer drawers - because the legs and shoulders don't always fit into one drawer :yum:

Unless it's to go under a worktop, get a top-loading freezer not one with drawers.

Those the size of a normal fridge will fit about five Hebridean hoggets.
