movement standtill laws
« on: October 21, 2014, 01:01:33 pm »
I have my ram being delivered on Saturday  :excited: but I may potentially have purchased two lambs for my four year old daughter. Am I right in thinking the ram won't Tigger a standstill as its during breeding season or will I have to wit the 13 days before I can let ewe lambs come? Ram is coming from a different place to potentional ewe lambs.

the standstill only affects animals leaving your holding, not coming onto it, so you will be fine.

Oh excellent. Two new lamb would be well away from other girls and tup is going in with others. I will have a very happy four year old now

Certainly in scotland its 13 days, but it only triggers when you move animals on and prevents you moving any of them off except direct to slaughter :-)

Does get more complex if you have pigs tho lol, sheep or pigs coming on put a 20 day standstill on pigs.
There are also exceptions for stud males such as boars bulls and rams, or for shows, but I'll try not to blow your mind!

I'm in Scotland. Oksy so in theory I can collect daughters lambs tomorrow and receive tup on Saturday and not be doing anything wrong?

You can make 'on' movements (movements onto your holding) whenever you want.  Restrictions are on moving animals off your holding.

So yes, you can fetch the lambs for your daughter tomorrow, and the tup can arrive on Saturday, and all above board.  :)
Don't listen to the money men - they know the price of everything and the value of nothing

Live in a cohousing community with small farm for our own use.  Dairy cows (rearing their own calves for beef), pigs, sheep for meat and fleece, ducks and hens for eggs, veg and fruit growing
