We take the pigs to a lot of shows over the summer and the costs vary greatly. Some of the smaller shows only charge £2 per animal entered and this gets you two exhibitors tickets and parking whereas Joe Public have to pay £8 each at the gate.
The big shows are a whole different ball game for example to go to Three Counties last year with 3 pigs cost £89 to enter, put on top of that diesel (we live in Yorkshire) and staying over for 3 nights (we camped) We won the princely sum of £23! The Cheshire cost £53 to enter and we won £52. The GYS cost £25 per adult this year and i went 2 days, however some friends have a memberes badge and as they were away i used that but it would have been an expensive do otherwise.
Lots of shows are still trying to recover losses from the appalling bad summer 2yrs ago. I think people will be more choosy about which shows they go to according to finances. A lot of shows have gone because of public liability and general insurance costs as well as running costsl eg The Royal, the Royal Lancashire, Hatfield and the East of England to name 4 big ones fallen by the way side.
I love the shows and am already planning for next year!
Off to Egton this Wednesday and we'll be at Westmoreland on 11th Sept.
