What if the RSPCA started killing animals?

Badger bumped by a car? Knock it on the head. Oiled seabird? Give it a lethal injection. That or something like it may become official policy from the UK animal welfare charity RSPCA if research it is conducting finds that releasing some species of wildlife does not lead to high survival rates in the wild.

If it finds that a wildlife species does not survive for long after being released, it will explore two options. One is to change the rehabilitation to see if there is a better way of rehabilitating that species to improve its survival. The other option is to say no. This species can't be rehabilitated.

Choosing what animals to save - decided by which gives better results (or 'value for money') ::)
Oh, don't shoot me down in flames - I can kind of see their point. :o
If they feel they are 'wasting' money saving animals that then go on to die, they may feel it wiser to invest in animals that are likely to survive.
BUT is the RSPCA not a charity ? - dedicated to saving each and every animal it can ??? I personally think if they adopt this approach their donation revenue will plummet.
I certainly wouldn't donate to an organisation that was only going to save "economically viable" animals - they all deserve the chance  >:(

No it is now run like a business :( Oh it has charitable status, Just look at its recent failings and the great can of worms it has opened ........... FREEDOM FOODS, what a joke that is!!!! >:(

I wish they would reconsider rehabilitating Urban Foxes in this area!!! But then that would be the SSPCA wouldn't it?

Remember evryone puts their spin on things. I suspect the producers of Fieldsports TV have no love for the RSPCA because of its stance on field sports.

I do sometimes think we get oversentimental and save animals where it's not best for the animal or the wider population. Urban foxes are a case in oint. But if you look at the States and their issues of wild horses - too many, leads to conflict with graziers, so the horses are rounded up and often kept in feed lots on the offchance that someone will adopt them. Wild mustangs aren't for everyone and many get into difficulty - a bullet in the brain may be a more humane solution. And believe me, the thought horrifies me as I love horses but penned in a feed lot - that must be torture.

Sorry, but the RSPCA has lost so much kudos in the last few years, it's not just the Field Sports people that are against them, although I do admit to having leanings in that direction.  I no longer donate to the RSPCA.

The shelter where we got Henry was in a different league to the RSPCA.  The turn over of dogs, the care of the animals, the aftercare and advice for new owners, everything is way ahead of the RSPCA shelter that I worked in.  Infact, I was unsure of the response I would get if I told them I used to work for the RSPCA, but I finally coughed it and we had a long moan about the state of the RSPCA.  The RSPCA inspectors in this area advise people to go to the shelter where we got Henry from and NOT go to the RSPCA!!!!  That says it all I think!

Someone I know has had all their dogs removed by the RSPCA and they won't hand them over to their respective breeders, where they would be looked after carefully.  Instead they are in kennels - noisy ones.  At least one of them has never been in a  kennel in her life (one of my breed) and must be so stressed that she may take a long time to recover.

 ;D ;D ;DWe love our dogs and if we had LOADS of land we would  have lot's of them...looks like Isaly is having puppies, she is funny babout her food and funny about sharing her bedwith Ben....poor old Ben!!
