feeling like a proper farmer !! (ish)
« on: May 13, 2014, 08:05:06 pm »
A first tonight as we actually sold some sheep, not in a bag, but alive and kicking and going on to live full and happy lives we hope. 4 of our home bred ewes ( 3 hogs and 1 gimmer with her lambs) have gone to live at a smallholding a couple of miles away. it was odd how difficult it felt to let 4 of our girls who  were born here and we have cared for and named ( Hazel, Lexie, Lucy and my liitle mate,Ellie) go, but it made sense to get rid of our woollies and return to just the Wilts Horns. The boys we have are always destined for a one way trip but until now every ewe lamb stays here so this was a first. we did feel all grown up just like proper farmers.
bit of a choker but then a nice wad of cash - we've made some space, might have to go get some Large Black weaners

That's great, well done
Don't listen to the money men - they know the price of everything and the value of nothing

Live in a cohousing community with small farm for our own use.  Dairy cows (rearing their own calves for beef), pigs, sheep for meat and fleece, ducks and hens for eggs, veg and fruit growing

Yes well done - I don't like lambs/ewe or even boys leaving that have been born here - I've know them their whole life for the second they arrived but not everything can stay and we meet some lovely enthusiast people which makes it all worth while - even the pissing rainy days

Well done.  I have my head around sending on the boys, and even some girls.  But when I sold some live, it felt awful.  The buyer had a change of circs. and I bought them all back :roflanim: :roflanim: .  I'm never going to be a saleswoman :-[ .  But if anyone out there can provide a good permanent home for some Shetland ewe lambs...please get in touch ;D

Congrats Clive - it's only a shame I couldn't get my hands on 'em!
