How much should I charge for Hoggett
« on: May 04, 2014, 11:14:04 am »
I have two Hoggetts (breed is Lleyn), slaughtered yesterday and will be left to hang until next Saturday, when they will be butchered.  Family wish to buy them as half or whole but how much should I charge?  I would appreciated some advice.

Thank you,

£120 minus whatever family discount you want to apply :).  All depends how much they cost you to produce really! :)

Based on your replies and given it is family I think I shall ask for about £75 - £80 for a whole Hoggett.  Thanks for your help.

Depends how heavy they are.  We have a lot of interest in our lamb/hogget and sell at about £10 per KG.

Is that 45kg deadweight? I have been asked about mutton or hogget and would sell at least £120 for whole carcass. Would expect the dead weight to be around 30kg.

 where was that vf ? they are around £100 at stirling , £25 kill and butcher plus your derv to take it to slaughter and pick up meat .your going to need near  £150 .makes it expensive what i do if its workin out to dear is to take market price for hogg and tell them to pay there own kill and butcher makes them appreciate that you are not getting all the money . when the price is up i  have seen me cash in my killing hogs and buy in some primatives for freezer.

If deadweight is 45Kg that is a large carcass .... must be worth at least  £120 to £140  so £60 per half seems reasonable if it includes slaughter and butchering.

Take a look at Teg prices here .... (540ppKg)
