Tesco Milk from Beef Cows?
« on: March 20, 2014, 10:34:27 am »
I see Tesco have had to withdraw an ad. from their stores, "£1 for 4 pints," as the illustration of black and white cows shows not Holstein Friesians or even British Friesians but Hereford X beef suckler cows.

I wouldn't necessarily expect their advertising staff to know the difference but that ad. must've been seen and approved by a number of other people before it was printed and distributed to their UK branches - and no-one knew any better?!

Aside from this, why do they think selling milk at below the cost of production is a good idea?  Who changes their supermarket just because milk is cheaper in another one?  Who buys lots of extra milk because it's cheaper this week?

More folk than you might think. My late mother could tell you the price of staples in the four supermarkets in the town where she lived and went to each in turn and bought form the cheapest. She was horrified that I went to one and bought everything regardless of the price.

My in-laws shhop around three supermarkets - Tesco, Asda and Sainsbury's - for different things.

The problem with the cheap milk is that the big four will all do it so the effect is wasted.

I'm surprised they've withdrawn the ad.  I'd noticed and commented on it - but it wasn't in the same league as the egg-laying cockerel...  ::)
Don't listen to the money men - they know the price of everything and the value of nothing

Live in a cohousing community with small farm for our own use.  Dairy cows (rearing their own calves for beef), pigs, sheep for meat and fleece, ducks and hens for eggs, veg and fruit growing
