Help needed urgently re CPH numbers in Scotland
« on: February 21, 2014, 09:25:39 pm »
I'm new to TAS. Can someone with experience help me please? Got 5 in-lamb sheep in 2acre rented paddock adjoining rented house. The paddock's on a yearly let from an estate and completely separate from any of their other stocked land. Try as I might with SEERAD I can only get a keeper's CPH so if I move the sheep off they say it has to be under the estate's CPH which would lock down the estate. The estate now says get rid of the sheep or sort it out and get your own CPH. What can I do??? - rental let is due for renewal in mid-March this year!

Where in Scotland are you
pygmy goats, gsd, border collie, scots dumpys, cochins, araucanas, shetland ducks and geese,  marrans, and pea fowl in a pear tree.

Why would moving sheep OFF trigger a stand still?  It would usually be when sheep are moved ON.  13 day for Scotland except stock tups at tupping time.  But if your field is isolated then you can probably get it approved as an isolation field so bringing stock in wont affect the rest of the estate.
If you've your own cph number  ( even a keepers one) I dont think your movements affect the estate anyway.  Certainly I've plenty of clients where there are several keepers on the same premises without any problems - including bizarrely sharing cattle sheds -  one keeper maybe on standstill while the others can still move.
I'd pop in to your local SEERAD office & they should be able to clairify things.

I 've had loads of conversations on the phone with various bits of bureaucracy in SEERAD, Perth and I've had conflicting information over the past 2 years. They've never said what you've suggested, though I'd have thought that was the right way to do things. i did once report a movement on under my keeper's CPH and got a call from the animal movement centre saying I'd used an incorrect CPH. The CPH is 89 709 7002. I do think that I should just maybe keep on using it?

http://www.scotland.gov.uk/Resource/0041/00410903.pdf esp pg4 movements should never be reported to or from codes allocated to landless keepers, 7000 codes

These links should clarify the situation.  You should use the cph of the land animals are moving from & to, not your keepers cph number.
It looks like technically movement of sheep onto your holding would in theory trigger the 13day standstill for the estate although most clients dont seem to apply this.  However if you register for a seperation agreement then your movements wont affect the estate & vice versa.  The form is at the last link shown.
Good luck!
