We are thinking of getting some Golden Gurnsey goats.  Can anyone tell me what type of fencing and height works well with them?  Thanks

I have 2 Golden Guernseys, 7 Pygmys, 2 Toggenburgs and 2 large cross breed goats and out of them all the Guernseys are the best at not escaping or even trying to. We have standard 4ft fencing but the gates are much higher as the others would attempt to jump. The Guernseys are very gentle, quiet and very loving but there again I think all goats are loving. Good luck with them, they are beautiful.

Like James we have standard 4ft high stock fencing, we have never had any escapees out of the field. We have British Toggenburgs, Anglo-nubians, British Alpines, and they are all breeds probably more likely to try and escape than golden guernsey's would be.

We also have 4ft high hurdles which we use to pen them at night etc, and apart from an over enthusiastic male billy kid who wanted to get to a girl goat in season, we haven't ever had any of them escape from them either.

We dont have guernseys but a Sanaan and Toggenburg.  We have a double layer of stock fencing which comes higher than the meter high wooden pallets. This means they can comfortably climb up for a nosey without damaging their feet, and can kick if they want without us having to constantly check for and repair any damage!
Ours is therefore more than adequate, but I'd rather that than have to chase them back from the street!
(see the 'back garden goats' thread for abit more info and eventually a photo if it works this time!)
