I think just two would be lovely (unless three were friends all together?). I have years to grow a goaty empire  :) I'd much rather keep animals that are really tame and handled, (at least for the first ones), even if it means it's much more upsetting to send them away. The ones I looked after before were ex-commercial dairy and had I guess been handled loads: they'd run over when called, could be led on a lead and so long as they had something to eat, they were happy to be milked or have their feet picked up or anything. This is what I'll try to achieve. So maybe wait and later get two goatlings would be fine?

Tattycat, your toggenberg cross sounds like my springer spaniel, happy with everything!
Hearing comments from sokel and penninehillbilly that Boers are hardier make me think that is the way to go.

I tried to email Scott Moir, (Googled his name and goat and turned up at the Boer Goat society) but it failed to send. Does anyone have his email address?

I don't have it myself, but I might be able to get it- his username I have remembered at last is Ruives, same as his prefix, so you might be able to send him a pm or email through the forum?

There's a lady in Caithness, and a chap in Kinross as well that I can give you numbers for.

Just checked and no option to email him on here, just pm. I'll ask my friend for his email address. If you want to try pm'ing him, he's on page 246 of the members list!

We have a right mix of breeds, guernseys, saanen, togg crosses and AN crosses but no boers...YET and they all do fine and am quite a bit north of you so don't worry too much about hardiness. My kidding starts in about 3 weeks so if you haven't got yourself sorted later in the year let us know
keeper of goats, sheep, pigs, ducks, chickens, turkeys, dogs, cats, goldfish and children, just don't ask me which is the most work!
