Draught/spents from distilleries and goats
« on: December 15, 2013, 05:15:03 pm »
We've been offered the left over solids from one of local whiskey distilleries. I know that their premises and ours will need to be approved in order to feed it legally to live stock. My question is, is it safe to feed this to goats and sheep?

We are primarily considering it to supplement our pigs feed but didn't know if our other animals can safely eat it too?  We have sheep, goats, pigs, geese, ducks, turkeys and hens.

Any knowledge on this would be gratefully received! Many thanks.

If its what I think it is (Though ours came from breweries) we used to give it regularly but then the stupid regulations came in where everything is supposed to go to landfill because everyone is too well fed in this country...and they then complain because landfill is overflowing ::)

If its the brewers grains ours love them when they are hot and as long as they are only 2-3 days old after that they get a bit picky with them
all of our animals get some every day

be careful with any liquid that runs out..............animals CAN get drunk on it...............once saw a herd of cows who had drunk the liquid and they were definitely 'merry'.   Never seen anything so funny !!!!
They were fine a few hours later !!!!!

If its just the brewers grains they cant get drunk from the liquid, Its the stage after the grains come out that produces the alcohol, Now the Hops is another thing, you get drunk just from the fumes  ::)
We get all of our grains from a local friend who owns his own brewery  ::)
