Little devils!!
« on: August 21, 2009, 04:15:06 pm »
School holidays and kids are all roaming around looking for something to do.

I was on my way home from work - I walk.  Coming through the outskirts of the village, as I passed some houses who have very long back gardens, most have allotments at the end of their garden - I could hear kids voices, behind a wall, they were discussing what someone may have in his shed.......as I drew level, there was an almighty smash.  It sounded like a shed or greenhouse window.  I went across the road, just in time to see some kids take cover behind some trees, they must have seen me coming!!

I told them they may as well come out as I had seen them.  Asked them what they were doing in the garden, and they said nothing!!  (A very loud nothing to me then!)  there were two lads and a girl, no more than 11.  When I said I had heard the breaking glass, the girl said they had found some broken glass .....hmm.    I said if that was the case, they would not mind if I telephoned the house owner and told him  - whoosh, they were off over the wall and up the lane at great speed.

I have spoken with the community police officer, who is going to go and have a look, and was very grateful I had reported it.  Like I said, someone may be missing a window in their shed, although it did sound petty. Not at all the lady said, they encouraged people to report anti social behaviour, and after all its someones property being damaged, and if this is the case, they do at least know who they are dealing with age wise.

Little b*****s! We get trouble sometimes round here, my neighbours have had kids poking sticks through the wire at their chickens and turkeys, and I've called the police after kids throwing bottles and stuff at the factory behind us.  Sounds tame I know, but I can't abide mindless damage, especially where animals are concerned. (yes, theres probs with drugs, fights, weapons, cars, thefts here as well, but I'm trying to keep on topic!)
Luckily we've had no real probs with our livestock, the kids came round uninvited but having a german shepherd with a social disorder helps!

Like it ;) ;D ;D

The other day a couple of kids on bikes came down our lane and round onto our drive, stopping and looking across the garden towards the ducks and chickens (I just happened to be in the front room with Allez and Hester - she's BIG with a BIG voice).  Anyway, they got off the bikes, glanced at the window and started to climb onto the fence.  I quietly got up, went to the front door and let Hester slip out.  She suddenly spotted them as they slid onto the grass, took off like a bat out of hell baying like every hound that Baskerville ever produced and the look on their faces of pure terror was so funny - if 11 year olds could take heart attacks I think they might have.  I've never seen kids move so fast!  What they didn't know is that Hester absolutely adores kids, especially my two year old grand-daughter, and wouldn't have touched them.  She just likes to let everyone know that she owns the place  ;D ;D ;D

We don't get bothered by kids here at the farm, but that may be because we have 6 dogs, the largest being a GSD called Talisker, who according to some scrapmen who were lurking round, has a head the size of a football, and they had never seen such an enormous dog ......they did not return :)

I, too, cannot stand kids who think it is ok to wreck other peoples property, terrorise old ladies, and torture animals.  I don't care what age they are, they should have respect, sadly lacking nowadays.

My elderly uncle used to tell me that when he was 10, he and the village lads used to go scrumping for apples in an old mans garden.  Apparantly they were running away with their apple, and ran slap bang into the village bobby!!  They were all taken home and given a stern warning, and got a sound smack from their mother too.  If stealing apples were the only crime kids did nowadays life would be great!!!

I think that's one of the main problems.  No parent control.  If we stepped out of line at school and got a row, we'd get a bigger one when we got home!  I never had a bobby after me but if I had my Mum would have been helping him tan my hide!

Mind you I sometimes think my son-in-law is a bit too strict with my grand-children - or is that just me being a Granny................................ ::)

I think if kids are stopped at the beginning of their vandalistic careers, it may well encourage them to be responsible adults.

Have bought a new 'Beware of the dog' sign today... but by the time you've read it, the German Shepherd has heard you coming & is barking or howling , and the goat has seen you so shes bleating which sets the chickens off..

Wish I'd thought of all this before parting with my money!

Nobody, but NOBODY gets in my garden - not without Hester telling the whole of Clackmannanshire about it!  Haven't seen those two kids on bikes back again since I let her out and they scarpered back over the fence.  She adores my 2 year old grand-daughter and follows her around like a little dog - oops  :-[  She is  - well not so little!
