Ducks and Pond plants
« on: September 30, 2013, 10:48:59 pm »
Last year we bought a dozen "Indian Runners" (which turned out to be more Aylesbury than Runners) and they absolutely vandalised the pond, destroyed all the plants, tried to drown our call ducks and generally acted like hooligans.  In the fullness of time they paid the price for their disgraceful behaviour and now reside in the freezer!!

Looking to re-establish the duck pond with our remaining call duck (and partners to be). Lost three in quick succession to next doors cat (which frankly is living on borrowed time at present - but that is another story!). Any thoughts, suggestions, ideas on plants that might survive in a decent sized pond with a few call ducks?

Thanks in advance!

We grow water irises around the pond and they grow quickly so even with the ducks chewing on them when they start to grow, they survive. Everything else gets eaten eventually, but we have muscovy and appleyards.  You could replace plants with what you had before, that might work, put some chicken wire around them until they become established maybe.
