I've got a badger that does his evening stroll through my garden. His veg related activity this year was to help finish off the peas - fortunately we'd already had plenty but there were plenty more to come until he flattened them. Then he took most of the broad beans - again forgiven because we'd had quite a few (and they're not popular amongst my kids). Now he's just been pure evil and flattened/eaten all of the sweetcorn before we'd got any (and before it was properly ready). But he hasn't touched anything else (yet) - potatoes, tomatoes (still unripe), carrots, onions, garlic, beetroot, leeks, brassicas (which are all netted from butterflies) are all safe at the moment. Does that mean he doesn't like them or is he going to turn his attentions somewhere else now the sweetcorn has gone? Have any of you got munching badgers and what is their penchant?

The upside is that most of the veges and soft fruit are in a walled garden so if I can get the gates replaced, he'll be one unhappy chappy. But no doubt it'll take me a while to get that sorted.

Yes they love sweetcorn, and a lot of flower bulbs also.  Plus they like to poo round the place.  Might a judiciously positioned strand of electric fencing wire discourage them?

Well if you get me onto poo - he and the foxes make more mess than all of my animals put together. At least I can track where they've been (including both of them into the nissen hut where the poultry feed is kept) - oh, and be sure who's been eating broad beans! Ironically picking up poo is one thing that puts me off keeping dogs, and I'm finally through the phase of cleaning up my children - instead I clean up after the wildlife!
