Stollen poultry
« on: September 01, 2013, 10:32:43 pm »
Phoned an old friend down in ayrshire and she was saying that there is a lot of poultry being stollen in her area and I was wondering if anyone has heard about this as its the first I've heard. Terrible thing to happen.

Ive had Hubbards stolen before mate, couldnt ever prove it though. It was odd as they were the only birds missing in a run with young laying birds running on the same food!!!

Yes she said that the thieves took certain birds and left others as if they were swollen to order, obviously they must have known what birds the owner had. As if it's not bad enough with foxes etc. I have seen on other forums a stollen bird section maybe we could have one on this forum ?.  These thieves need caught and anything that helps this must be a good thing.

We live in the highlands there was a local show at granton on a Thursday 6 farms got hit they stole tools etc they had a hydraulic wrench that they put in the garage do ores and broke them open. ?.good news they got lifted at Perth. The men came from Manchester. They go through sales and face book looking for stock then they use go ogle Erth to see the lay out and if its worth the risk then they steal it. A nother problem is young lambs you dint tag them for a month and then they are stolen Man got court with 120 in a barn could not prosecute no proof all lambs tagd. I dont bother the old man will shoot them no problem gipsis hare corsin on the croft the old man gave the 10 minites and he would shoot the dogs they left. ?.

We have had stolen poultry before now, and we are in central Scotland.

We bought at a poultry sale 3-4 years ago, a broody hen with 5 Cayuga ducklings. The ducklings were only 2-3 days old, so there was a lot of interest in them at the sale. We took them home, I posted on here about the sale and mentioned we had bought them. We reared the ducklings.

When they were 4-5 weeks old, they were living in a secure coop and run, still with Emma the hen. They were fine at night, about 7pm, and by the next morning they were gone. No sign of feathers, no holes in the coop or run where either a fox could get in or they could get out. They weren't all gone either- Emma and one duckling remained. They weren't upset, or frightened in any way, which if it had been a fox you would have expected them to be.

The only thing we think is someone either took note of us from the sale, or from my posting on here, and stole them. The fact that only 4 went, makes us think that 2 people came in on foot, and carried one in each hand/arm.

I would remind you all- be careful how much you reveal on forums, or on the Internet.
