Brewers yeast for chucks
« on: July 24, 2013, 05:24:00 pm »
I have read a leaflet about brewers yeast for poultry.  Supposed to be good for them.  Has anyone tried this and if so did you get super fit chickens?  Seems worth a try when they moult perhaps?

I've used it long long ago on a nervous cocker spaniel, never heard of it for chooks, but I have heard that yeast has properties that are good for all of us.

Did it work on your spaniel?

Sounds like a recipe for major sour crop Mentalmilly and I wouldn't personally wouldn't entertain it. I can add that we had a couple of what appeared to be drunken chickens after binging on fallen fruit and perhaps the effect of natural yeast on the surface of the fruit. Birds are very alcohol intolerant and poachers used to soak wheat in whisky to catch drunken pheasants. Neat brewers yeast must be a 1000 times worse.

Yes, I managed to get her in the show ring and do a lot of winning with her.  She wouldn't even stand to be looked at before the course of yeast.

I don't know the truth of it but an old breeder told me to use it - said it coated the nerves  :innocent:

Whatever it does it did work.

im sure it does. found this info, might interest someone.

Brewer's yeast is often used as a source of B-complex vitamins, chromium, and selenium. The B-complex vitamins in brewer's yeast include B1 (thiamine), B2 (riboflavin), B3 (niacin), B5 (pantothenic acid), B6 (pyridoxine), B9 (folic acid), and H or B7 (biotin). These vitamins help break down carbohydrates, fats, and proteins, which provide the body with energy. They also support the nervous system, help maintain the muscles used for digestion, and keep skin, hair, eyes, mouth, and liver healthy.

Of course we, and Spaniels, don't have a fermentation vessel strapped to the chest. So fine for us and dogs.

I have some here if you need it doganjo, it's occasionally useful for ponies.  Wouldn't have thought of it for chooks and from the sound of it maybe shouldn't either so that's ok..

Thanks, Ellie, don't think I do - no neurotic spaniels now, just three mad Brittanys  :roflanim:
