Hello from aberdeenshire and show poultry search
« on: June 21, 2013, 06:01:57 pm »
Hello I've just joined as I know there are a lot of people based in in the north east of Scotland. I'm based around Huntly, Aberdeenshire. We have 4 hens 2 bluebell, a black rock and a speckled star. We have also a speckled Sussex chick.

I would like to get a trio for showing however what breed I'm not to sure! I'm quite keen on the Dutch bantam. Although I do like my speckled Sussex but not sure how well they do showing? Could anybody point me in the direction of any show quality breeders or any for sale. Or even if they know of another breed that is quite good for showing. I'm happy to travel a bit although not to far!!
I'm sure you can tell I'm quite new to it all.
Thanks in advance, look forward to the replies

Hi from someone else near Huntly

I don't know of anyone with specifically show quality birds, though some of the birds I've seen from Ronnie Greenlaw down near Tarland have looked quite nice. BALLOCH is also nearby and they breed quite a few different types so it may be worth contacting them.
Our holding has Anglo Nubian and British Toggenburg goats, Gotland sheep, Franconian Geese, Blue Swedish ducks, a whole load of mongrel hens and two semi-feral children.

Keith do a fur and feather show quite often in the village hall - that includes poultry aswell as pigeons/cavies/rabbits. if you go and watch im sure youl find a breeder to sell you some show stock. you will have a good choice of breeds to view so you can see whats your favourite type. theres also a f&f show at turriff town hall - or go go to the country shows and speak to the poultry breeders there - its usually the same people anyway.

Ok thank. You both for the reply. I think what would be ideal for me is someone that is looking to maybe sell old stock however I don't want ones that are too old. I didn't know Keith or Turriff did the fur and feather shows I knew about moray and Nairn one.

Clydesdaleclopper do the the people you mentioned have websites or anything or are they on here?

Thanks again
