Isn't the solution to have legal insurance - covers the worry of having to defend a claim, usually a small add-on to household insurance - c£25? I am not aware that it restricts in what capacity it arises but worth asking.

Also my household insurance cover's my farm buildings as well as my house therefore I have public liability cover that way. Doesn't cover stray sheep (or loss of farm implements, but we take a self-insure approach to these) but helps if someone walks into the tractor or trips over a harrow. :-J

However... do all businesses have to carry Public Liability insurance?  Got me wondering.....

That's interesting Smudger. May look into that.

We are in the same position Mijbil. Just a few ewes that we would like insured in case they managed to escape and cause any trouble. NFU were polite but appeared not interested really .... wouldn't insure unless it was house etc. as well .... said they would get back in touch but never did. Others wouldn't insure just sheep and it had to be for farm buildings, tractors etc. also. Not got any of those .... so no good there.

Cliverton seem our best option but still over £200. Seems a lot for such a small number of sheep but not found anywhere better yet.

So disappointing to see how many promised 'call backs' from NFU were never carried out.  When I first joined TAS back in 2009 (despite what my profile says lol!) I was so proud to advertise their services. now though it seems its not at all suited to smallholding or small farmers  :(
