It only took 5 minutes
« on: May 16, 2013, 08:16:38 pm »
 this morning i was on my way to Totnes..when all of a sudden , the car in front of me had a small incident..his back door opened , and out came two bags.... so i flashed..and he carried on..anyway..i put the hazard lights on..picked up the two bags..and carried on..i couldn't see the car.... so i arrived on the job..rang the local radio station so they could put out a message......

anyway..i finished the job and looked at the labels... got the manufactures name... i rang helen to get a number..she came back within a minute... so i rang the manufactures....

anyway it turns out to belong to a young girl who runs her own little craft shop and dad picks up the bags when he goes off to buy his chickens  ;D

so i got the address... only 1/2 a mile away from the job and delivered them...... you would have thought they where the crown jewels  ;D i have never seen anyone so happy..she even wanted to buy me a box of chocolates

anyway..i had to rush as i wanted to get home...lovely to see someone so happy to get back what they lost..it was only two bags of cushions 10 in each bag

From your first paragraph I though they'd dumped two bags of rubbish...  >:(

But not so, it seems. Very lucky you saw them and could return it!  :D

Well done, John. Twenty cushions probably counted for quite a lot of money for her. You should have taken the chocolates and given them to Helen, then you'd have had two lots of Brownie points.  :roflanim:

Well, thats your good dead for the day done. I bet she had put a lot of hard work into them so no wonder she was so pleased to have them back.

one person i will always remember in life was dear old Nan... she had a heart of gold and would give all us kids her last penny, money never meant a thing to her, i guess it was because she never had any, yet she always had time for everyone, also had a uncle who was of the same nature.... living down here in Devon we see a lot of holiday makers ..i remember one day this car had broken down, the car was packed with mum dad and a heard of kids  :roflanim:

uncle Rob went over to the car , found out where they where going..they where only a mile away from the campsite,
so i dropped them all off to the site... Uncle rob fixed the car overnight and i picked up the guy in the morning to collect his car.....he brought out a wad of cash to pay uncle rob..... ile never forget the blokes face when rob pushed away the cash and told him to have a wonderful holiday.... the bloke nearly cried

at the end of the week ,,the family turned up at the door with some chocolates, and a bottle of wine, they where on their way home....... they couldn't believe someone..a stranger , could have been so helpful.... sometimes it costs next to nothing to help someone..maybe one day mother luck will look down on me.....i hope its when i am buying the smallholding  :roflanim: or asking for planning permission  :roflanim: only joking..i got my helen

A knight in shining armour - a fine example to set the young girl.  She'll probably remember your good deed for the rest of her life.  Well done that man!  :trophy:

Nice one John,
I know what you mean about the look on peoples faces . Years ago just before christmas when I'd been made redundant on no payment I found £ 400 .( worth about £1600 intodays money )
I took  it to the police station and as i stood  at the window giving details many a person in the queue were calling me a stupid CNUT.
I turned on them and said and if it was your money  would you want it handing in ?? deqad scilence occurred as i walked out .
Five days later we get a beautiful boquet of flowers and a thank you letter with a request to phone a number on the label.
So we did , the person who'd lost the money was paying off the final payment for  a six month holiday to see her kids in Austrailia  before she died of old age .

I know what it is to be like long term disabled & desparately skint & hungry , I wouldn't wish that on any one else . Even if the money had belonged to a company someone would have copped it in the neck big time & like as not been sacked on the spot possibly being accused of theft .

I honestly don't think I could have lived with myself keeping it , despite having been a roughy toughy squaddie for 15 years & not having much respect for anyone.
