My OH came in yesterday morning to say one of my Llanwenog ewes was lying down on her own.... on closer investigation I said ...' if I didn't know better I'd say she is lambing'. 1 of my first 8 ewes bought to lamb next year.
I left her to it for a while then decided we had better get her in ..... a 5 acre field on a fair slope (she of course was at the bottom) eventually we manaded to get her in and with nothing showing at rear again left her to it.
After a time it was clear further investigation was warrented.... bear in mind we weren't lambing till next year so no lambing kit!.... hand in .... what am I feeling? (and I'm not a complete novice to this) ... possibly a tail head!?.... Ok cavalry needed .... trip to a neighbour (we have only been here 3 months so were very gratefull to John who came to rescue... yes tail only presentation (relieved that I had correctly identified this so haven't completely lost what I knew) .... and poor ewe had been at it rather a long time so result a dead lamb (ewe of course!) .
Now I have a recovering ewe (thank goodness) with milk and no lamb ... and the possiblity that any of 3 of the others could all be pregnant.....
was quite a day!
