I have manged to get the allotment right next to the one I already have which means the pigs can have a bigger space but what I was thinking of doing was to plant some grass seed and let it grow and then let them loose on there as it is just dirt at the moment as I have never planted anything in my life is now the right time to do it and is there a certain  grass seed that will grow better than others any info will be a great help

Many thanks gavin

Yes good time to drill ~ if the ground is workable ~  for grass seed speak to your local seed merchant and get recommendations they know the soil conditions do explain you only probably want about 25kgs though getting red and white clover is go for nitrogen and proteins but its pigs so if another wet year it wont last long... there is a grass called pro pig although it needs time to mature so not really worth it

I'd be tempted to put some good food crop on it.  kale/ chard is pretty bullet proof and easy, maybe you could undersow with something else too.

You'll be dissapointed if you go to the bother of planting grass then let pigs loose on it. It'll be gone in less time than it took you to scatter the seeds. Mrs Snoodles is right. Plant something that will help keep the feed bill down.
